Thank you for this article. I have gone pre-diabetic based on A1C of 6 and have been using a CGM to try to keep my blood sugar under control and I fear I have slid based on that into a near keto dietary pattern.
I have lost almost 30lbs in 3 months and need to get back on the CGM to determine what eating patterns put me where I am.
Because of the cult nature of keto it's hard to see that there are downsides to it, so your article was a good fact check for me.
I was whole food vegan for the last decade so I am wondering what put my metabolic health where it was on the decline and I'm pretty sure it was inactivity.
I am turning that around and I'm going back to whole food plant based with more activity.
It doesn't help to retire from a sedentary profession, into a more sedentary retirement...
Thank you for your knowledge and experience !
You have helped one person at least today, I am a small study group but the results are positive !
Nick's credentials look impressive on paper. But his PhD is completely bogus. I read his whole thesis and wrote about detailing all the mistakes and issues. It's littered with basic mistakes and typos. He also lies/misleads about his disease, ulcerative colitis, which I also wrote about. I have Crohn's disease and am very familiar with IBD and how it manifests.
I eat a mostly vegan, Mediterranean diet. I like to say I'm vegan except Parmesan! But I do it for the animals and the planet. I can't believe it took me until I was 60 to open my eyes to the harm that the livestock industry inflicts on birds, animals and the environment. I wish we didn't focus so much on ourselves when we talk about diet, but on our impacts to other beings and our environment.
My husband was on keto for a few years after his brother extolled it for weight loss. He’s the cook. I felt deprived. No real sugar (monkfruit, really?), and other stuff from hell. He lost a little weight but put it on again. We’re actually eating a more balanced diet now, and food tastes good again. Moderation in all things. We’ve lost weight and may lose more. God, I hated the keto scam.

Oh thanks - time to eat a bit better - I like the Mediterranean and I will write more about this.
Perhaps, but Dolly was a low carb promoter. She did that, I guess there’s always an exception hence you can never be right. Other we may call you God.
Do you know if there have been studies involving calcification of the heart valves and the keto diet (large amounts of red meat in particular. )

Oh I understand - hard for me to eat eggs because of this - hence, I prefer beans for breakfast.
